Alt_Newsletter #0002
We’re not in the newsletter business - we’re in the business of building the best colivings and community. So, as promised, we’re not bombarding you with emails every five minutes.
For all you new subscribers, our monthly newsletter comes out in the first week of the month, but we’ll drop you a shorter mid-month update too. And here it is!
We’ve got a familiar face to many of you inside, telling you why you might just be the person we’ve been looking for…
Alt_Community Stories
What is an Alt_ Community Manager?
Sunil has spent the past few months taking care of Alt_ members as a community manager, and before he heads out of town for a while we grilled him on what it’s been like for him…and potentially an opportunity for you!
How’s life been as a community manager at Alt_?
Everyone will do this in their own way, but I get closer to the team and nomads in a way I wouldn’t have just as a resident. I’ve seen the role as not just hosting and arranging community events, but encouraging residents to come up with things and helping them run with them.
What do you like about it?
None of it…I LOVE everything about it. The staff are amazing, they are good mates and are the reason I will keep coming back. But also, the cohort of nomads is always changing, so you get to meet so many different personalities I wouldn’t have been able to otherwise. Plus, there are always things happening, whether we’ve organised it or a resident just randomly holds a workshop.
When did you find Alt_?
My digital nomad life actually started at Alt_ in November ‘23 when I stayed for a month, and I met loads of digital nomads. I didn’t even know the phrase “digital nomad” then!
And you came back?
I went back home and told my company I wanted to go fully remote after seeing I could do this. They said no, so I quit! I restarted my nomad journey in April 2024, moving around (meeting up with Alt_Fam in Vietnam on the way!) and circling back here in November.
But not as a guest this time it seems!
When I told John I was planning on coming back at the end of the year he said come back a month early and help cover as community manager while Jazmine (the O.G. of community!) was away. I said yes, got here and he hasn’t told me to stop yet! Now though, I’m off on some travels for a while, so there’s a spot open…
So, if someone wants to pick up the baton, what 3 traits do they need?
The role is open for anyone to do it their own way, but I would say someone who is adaptable, can run events, and manage their time well. That last one is a big one as it’s easy to get hooked in and spend all day here just hanging with residents!
Ok, last thing. Where should one go for food around here?
We’re at Alt_PingRiver now, so that’s easy. The two restaurants across the road. I don’t even know the names of them, to me they’re just Aunty Noc and Aunty K!
If you’re coming to town, and might have even the slightest interest in being a community manager here for a few weeks (or months!), we’d love to talk to you about what you’ll get from us.
If you have an Alt_ story to tell, or want to appear in Alt_Newsletter and share your thing with the community, fill in this form.
We’ve just realised Songkran is LESS THAN 2 MONTHS AWAY!

What we’re doing at Alt_ this month
You’ll know by now there are always events and workshops on at both Alt_ sites. They’re a big part of keeping the community connected, and growing it!
Our regular and recurring events - yoga, cold plunges, ice bath sessions, etc. - can be found here, but here’s a taste of what’s coming up in the next week or two. Links for each are below, or scan the qr codes.

There are still a handful of spots available!
Last week we told you of our love for Japan, especially during sakura - cherry blossom season. A couple more nomads have joined the popup, but we still have a couple of rooms.
Alt_Popup won’t be your typical Japan experience. You’ll be immersed into a Japan other visitors just won’t get to see. We’re going to Kotohira - a place we think the Alt_ community will love living and working in.
Our local host, Yoti, will share a unique cultural experience you just won’t get as a tourist. Plus, you’ll get the same Alt_ community experience, just in a new location!
Make this April unforgettable. Join us and combine immersive cultural experience with productivity and personal growth in one of Japan’s most picturesque settings.

Alt_Facts
Did you know that Alt_PingRiver was crowdfunded? It was actually a resident that suggested it, so you really do shape what the Alt_ community becomes.

Even John’s first pitch for Alt_PingRiver was to residents!
When the second location (Ping River) was identified we needed to raise the capital for it, and after the resident proposed crowdfunding, John thought, “huh, that’s interesting. Not sure how that will go, but we’ll give it a try”. Six months later we had enough to be confident we could complete the project.
And so exists Alt_PingRiver!

We’ll be back at the start of next month!
