Alt_Newsletter #0001

You all literally had me jumping for joy by signing up to hear from us…

I promise we’ll be mindful of the information-overload age we’re in and only send you content we think is meaningful and of value to you.

Why are we (finally!!) doing a newsletter?

Those of you who have passed through Alt_ made the community what it is, so we’re paying it back and sharing with you what is happening now and next. If you met me when you visited then you’ll know I always have plans for the next thing(s!), and here I’ll get them down in print to share the journey(s!).

Perhaps most importantly, we want to provide a platform for all of you in the Alt_Fam who have contributed to the spirit of Alt_.

Share with us, and the rest of the community who have come before and after you, what you’re working on; your business/project/product/adventure. Maybe you need some help, have something that can help others, or could just do with another audience.

I’ll also share some insights and projects on the coliving movement with you, starting with a new venture in a place we LOVE…

Thanks again for joining us here, and we hope you love the newsletter!

John

Looking for a unique work and travel experience in 2025?

If there is one thing you must know about Japan it’s sakura - cherry blossom season. And, by no small coincidence, that’s exactly when our newest venture, Alt_Popup, lands in the Land of the Samurai. It’s a time of year that spurs love affairs with Japan.

Alt_Popup won’t be your typical Japan experience. You’ll be immersed into a Japan other visitors just won’t get to see. We’re going to Kotohira - a place we think the Alt_ community will love living and working in.

Our local host, Yoti, will share a unique, non-touristic cultural experience. The popup will be the easiest of entries into a country that many nomads consider, but don’t take the extra step to visit. Not to mention, you’ll love the famous local udon noodles of Kotohira!

Alt_Popup is designed to extend the Alt_ community experience beyond Chiang Mai, and we chose Japan for its extensive untapped resources…and because we love it there!

Make this April unforgettable. Join us and combine immersive cultural experience with productivity and personal growth in one of Japan’s most picturesque settings.

Find all the details here. Alternatively, join our online meetup on 14th February where we’ll answer all of your questions.

We got overexcited at the thought of the Songkran holiday in April, so we’re treating you to a deal if you stay anytime throughout March and April…

Running a summit from a coliving space

Kai & Christoph chose Alt_ as their basecamp

When Kai and Christoph took on the challenge of re-igniting the Nomad Summit - a fixture in the Chiang Mai calender pre-COVID - they needed a base from which to operate it from.

After checking out villas, apartments and hotels around Chiang Mai, they found Alt_PingRiver. We had a quick chat with them in the midst of the summit’s huge schedule of events…

The opportunity to resurrect Nomad Summit landed on our desk last year, and having attended it years ago, I (Christoph) had a real connection to it. The gap it left in Chiang Mai hadn’t been filled and it’s such a nomad hub still so it was definitely overdue a return!

It is incredible how engaged the local community have been (including John, who is speaking at the main event!), and of course all the nomads who have traveled in from all over the world.

Organising a summit needs a lot of planning which can be stressful, and it was important to get here well ahead of time and be a part of the Chiang Mai community. We looked at hotels or renting a villa as our base as we arrived several weeks before the summit, but as soon as we found Alt_PingRiver we knew this was the place to have our base.

To have the entire core team together at one place, and the infrastructure of the cowork was key for us. We held pre-events and meetings here, and met nomads right on our doorstep. We’re already planning to stay here for next year’s summit!

If you’re a solo traveller looking for connection and community from day one, then Alt_ is perfect.”

Nomad Summit 2026 - next January - has already been locked in, so if you missed this year - or didn’t! - then you can get limited availability “Crazy Bird” tickets now on their website.

Oh, and book your stay for it at Alt_PingRiver or Alt_ChiangMai!

If you have an Alt_ story to tell, or want to appear here and share your thing with the community, fill in this form.
